How to install Stardew Valley Mods

First, open your game folder (the folder that contains Stardew Valley’s .exe file). This is where you normally find it:

If it is not there, try the following:

Option 2: SMAPI

1. Start SMAPI.
2. Enter the following command in the SMAPI console (it will be the second window that opens together with the game):
   show_game_files

Option 3: Steam

1. You have to open the Steam client.
2. Click on Stardew Valley (it has to be right-click).
3. Next – click on Properties.
4. The click on the tab Local Files.
5. Finally, go to Browse Local Files… and open the game folder.

Option 4: GOG Galaxy

1. Go to the GOG Galaxy client.
2. Click on Stardew Valley (it has to be right-click).
3. Go to Manage Installation > Show Folder and then open the game folder.

Install mods

If you want to install a mod, simply unzip it into the Mods folder. It’s good if every mod has its subfolder, and no trailing numbers. For instance, if your mod is PineapplesEverywhere, your file structure should be as follows:

–PineapplesEverywhere/
—PineapplesEverywhere.dll
—manifest.json

If you have a lot of mods, you can optionally organise them into subfolders. SMAPI will automatically search inside each folder until it finds one with files.

If a folder of yours looks like PineapplesEverywhere-1234567890, see inside it, whether the actual mod folder is there. Folders with this kind of names frequently have other folders inside them and sometimes readme files as well.

In case you decide to disable a folder, all you have to do is put a dot in front of the folder name (e.g. .disabled mods). Windows does not allow you do that by default, however, you can place a dot at the end and you’ll be sorted (e.g. .disabled mods.).

What's new

For players, SMAPI 3.9 mainly adds a new ErrorHandler mod, fixes map changes not always being reapplied, improves error messages due to half-empty Vortex mod folders, fixes some very old map mods which broke in Stardew Valley 1.5, reduces memory usage, and improves game path detection in the installer.

For modders, SMAPI 3.9 mainly adds KeybindList to easily support complex and alternate key bindings, improves the input and multiplayer APIs, and logs chatbox errors.

Maintenance updates:

• 3.9.1 mainly fixes a tile contains an invalid TileSheet reference crash after mods change certain maps.
• 3.9.2 adds more aggressive memory optimization to reduce OutOfMemoryException errors with some mods, improves asset propagation and error-handling, and fixes various issues.
• 3.9.3 mainly improves error-handling and makes changes to support core framework mods.
• 3.9.4 fixes an installer error if the Mods folder doesn't exist in 3.9.3.
